    This was the first act to raise money in colonies. British also tried hardder to arrest smugglers. Required to list all the merchants they brought aboard. These lists had to be approved before ships could leave colonial ports.
  • Committiees of Corresponding

    Committiees of Corresponding
    Each Committee got in touch with other towns and colonies. Its members shared ideas and information. Challenged British laws. "No taxation without Repersentation."
  • Parliament

    Parliament
    Parliament passed the Townshed acts. These acts placed duties on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea. Used writs of assistance to enforce these laws. This allowed tax collectors to search for smuggled goods.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    A lone British soilder standing guard had an argument with a colonist and struck him. Then the soilders fired into a crowd. The colonist called the shootings "Boston Massacre"
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    Allowed the British east India company to sell tea dirrectly to the company. Many smugglers feared this. Cheap tea would buy them out of buisness. Three ships loaded and arrived in Boston Harbor in 1773
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Indians snuck onto three tea-filled ships and dumped over 340 tea chests into the Boston Harbor. Soon people on the street stared saying "Boston Harbor is a teapot tonight." This event became known as the Boston Tea Party.

    Required colonist to house British soilders. This went along with the Intollerable Act. This was one of the laws in it. It was also the fourth law.
  • Intolerable Act

    Intolerable Act
    This passed the Coercive acts. Colonists called these laws "Intolerable Acts." The most important law is the Quartering Act. Also the Boston Harbor was closed until they paid for the ruined tea.

    This was a gathering of colonial who were deeply troubled about the relationships between Great Britian and its colonies in america. All colonies exept Georgia sent representatives. This was known as the First Continential Congress.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    Stamp Act of 1765
    This required colonists to pay for an offical stamo, or seal, when they bought paper items. The tax had to be paid on legal documents, licenses, and newspapers. The Prime Minister Grenville proposed the stamp act.
