    Committee of Correspodence
    The Committee of Corespodence was were meatings and groups used to quickly spread the word. They were also used to spread the revolution. One of its main functions was to organize resistance against taxes, such as the tea act. It was eventually replaced by the First Contenintal Congress.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act was an attempt by Britain to tax the colonists on sugar and molasses. This tax was formed in an attempt to pay of England's debt for The French and Indian War. It was also used to pay for the standing army in the colonies to protect them from Native Americans. This was one of the many taxes placed on the American Colonies.

    Stamp Act of 1765
    The Stamp Act was a tax on all paper products. It also maintained that all paper that did not have the tax on it was null and void. This tax also paid for the standing army in North America. This tax was highly unpopular in the colonies put very popular with parlament.

    The Sons of Liberty
    The Sons of Liberty was a secret society formed to fight against the British in North America. The society was started in separate states, but eventually came together to form one organization. Most of the leaders and notable members were middle class. The Sons of Liberty openly rebelled against British authority, which resulted in many outbreaks of violence.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts were a collection of 5 acts that was placed of the colonies. These acts were partially initated to pay for the 7 Years War, but they were also passed to punish New York for failure to follow the Quartering Act. These acts were met with extreme resistance from the colonies. All of these acts were eventually repealled except for the tax on tea.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massarce started when an angry mob ambushed a lone British sentry and subjected him to verbal abuse and thrown objects. A few minutes later, several British soldiers arrived to help the sentry. Despite orders, the soldiers fired into the crowd, killing 5 and wounding 6. Of the 8 soldiers, only 2 were punished, and they were only punished with hand brandings.

    The Tea Act was an act that allowed colonists to buy tea only from the East India Company. This act was very popular in Britain, but was met with hate in the colonies. This act forced many colonial tea companies out of buisness. This act provolked the Boston Tea Party.

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was an event where colonists dressed as Native Americans dumped tea into Boston Harbor. The tea was property of the East India Comnpany. While the event was praised in the colonies, it was despised in Britain. This event provolked a crack-down on Boston Harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts was a colection of acts that was formed in response to the Boston Tea Party. These acts were referred to as the Intolerable Acts because the colonists hated them. These acts were one of the things that provolked the Revolutionary War. These acts were never properly repealled.

    1st Contenental Congress
    The First Contenental Congress was a meeting between representatives from all states (except Georgia). These representatives decided whether or not to go to war with Britain. Even though there was a lot of arguing, the congress decided to fight Britain. They also passed The Bill of Rights.
