    Supreme court declares segregated schools unconstitutional.
  • Rosa Parks Arrested

    Begins Montgomery bus boycott, Rosa parks is arrested for refusing to give up her seat in a bus
  • SCLC Created

    Martin Luther King Jr., and other Southern ministers joined together to try and end discrimination.
  • First Sit- In in North Carolina

    Students at the agricultural school in NC have a sit in to fight discrimination.
  • SNCC Formed

    Provided young blacks with a place in the Civil rights movement
  • Freedom Riders

    Students refused to desegregate buses to draw attention to the problem.
  • Freedom Riders Attacked

    To try desegration laws in the South freedom riders were riding the buses and were attacked by an angry mob
  • James Meredith is the First black student at University of Mississippi

  • Martin Luther Jailed

    Martin Luther King is placed in Jail in Birmington Alabama
  • "I Have A Dream"

    Martin Luther King tells his dream of an equal America, bringing many people to his support
  • Civil Rights Act

    outlawed all major forms of discrimination against blacks, and women
  • "National Teach-in"

    Many colleges held teach ins to to talk about the positive and negatives of the war.
  • Tet Offensive

    Vietcong and North Vietnamese launched a massive suprise attack or mosty American airbases in South Vietnam
  • Massacre at My Lai

    American troops massacred unarmed South Vietnamese civilians in My Lai, angering many Americans.
  • Vietnamization

    The process announced by Nixon to gradually withdraw troops from Vietnam while keeping a strong presence.
  • Invasion of Cambodia

    Nixon announced that American troops had invaded Cambodia, sparking many protests.
  • Protestors killed at Kent State University

    National Guard soldiers fired upon protesters without an order to do so. Many Americans were angered at the invasion of Cambodia
  • Repeal of Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    Made the president tell the congress before entering into war.
  • Pentagon Papers Leaked

    Dan Ellis leaked "The Pentagon Papers" which revealed that many government officials privately questioned the war while publicly defending it.
  • Paris Peace Accords Signed by US

    U.S. agrees to immediately halt all military activities and withdraw all remaining military personnel within 60 days.
  • War Powers Act

    Established limits on executive powers, required the president to inform congress of any commitment of troops abroad within 48 hours, and to withdraw them in 60-90 days, unless congress approves
  • US Involvement in Vietnam Ends

    The last American military forces are withdrawn from Saigon, concluding the US presence in Vietnam
