Cell Theory Timeline

  • Zacharias Janssen

He contributed in the cell theory because he made it easier to observe cells by creating the compound microscope.
  • Robert Hooke

He came up with the name cell when he was looking at a piece of cork and saw little chambers.
  • Anton Van Leeuwenhoek

He contributed to the cell theory because he discovered bacteria cells. He discovered bacteria by looking at a sample of his saliva with a microscope. He also discovered single celled organisms.
  • Robert Brown

He contributed to the cell theory because he showed people that all living things are made up of one or more cells. He also discovered the cell nucleus.
  • Theodor Schwann

He also founded the cell theory. He also said that all animals have cells.
  • Matthias Schleiden

Matthias was the founder of the cell theory and also came up with the discovery that all plants are made of cells.
  • Robert Remak

Robert Remak was the scientist who proved all cells come from other cells. He got his information published by Rudolf Virchow without permission and Virchow got all the credit.
  • Louis Pasteur

He contributed to the cell theory by saying the spontaneous generation theory is not true. Spontaneous Generation theory says that some living organisms comes from nonliving matter. Some examples would be like that fleas come from dust, maggots come from rotting meat and wheat left in a dark corner produces mice.
  • Endosymbiotic Theory

The endosymbiotic theory says that eukaryote cells come from prokaryotes. It also says that large prokaryote cells eat small bacteria.
