    zacharias jansen

He was a spectacle maker in the Netherlands that lived in the early 1600's what he is most famous for was inventing the compound telescope, he is also credited for inventing the microscope but like the telescope the origins are unknown.
  • Period: to

    Anton Van Leeuwenhoek

He was a dutch scientist who made his own microscope because he was too poor to buy one. With that homemade telescope he discovered bacteria by looking at dental scrapings, when he first discovered them he did not call them "Bacteria" instead he called them "Animalcules" because he thought they looked like animals.
  • Period: to

    Robert Hooke

Robert Hooke is credited for coming up with the term cells which he got from when he was observing a piece of cork that the put to hold wine in a bottle he chose that name mostly because they reminded him of the place where monks live. Robert had a problem with another famous scientist named sir Issac newton the reason they have a problem is because Robert accused him of stealing his work and Issac in return stole the only portrait of Robert Hooke and hid it so we don't know what he looks like.
  • Period: to

    Karl Asmund Rudolphi

He is a German scientist who contributed to the cell theory and J.H.F. Link were awarded the prize for "solving the problem of the nature of cells", meaning they were the first to prove that cells had independent cell walls, it had been thought that cells shared walls and the fluid passed between them this way.
  • Period: to

    Mathias schleiden

He was a German botanist (one who studies plants) he discovered that all plants are made of cells he had a disagreement with another famous scientist named Theodore Schwann about about if cells come from preexisting cells or if they are free existing he believes they are free existing the answer was later on figured out by another scientist.
  • Period: to

    Theodore schwann

He was another German scientist from the 1800's that studied animals he figured out that all animals have cells he had a disagreement with another famous scientist from the 1800's it was that if cells came from preexisting cells or free existing he believed that they where preexisting that argument would later on be figured out by another scientist.
  • Period: to

    Robert Remak

He was a scientist that's famous for ending the argument between Schleiden and Schwann proving that cells come from preexisting cells and also proving Schwann right.
