Avery Iacavone's Cell Theory

  • Hans and Zacharias Janssen

    Hans and Zacharias Janssen
Hans and Zacharias Janseen made the first compound microscope by combining two convex lenses inside a tube. Zacharias Janssen is the son of Hans Janssen. Zacharias developed the idea and the blueprints. Hans did the building and the construction.
  • Robert Hooke

    Robert Hooke
In 1665, Robert Hooke studied thin slices of dead cork under a microscope. Hooke named cells after the rooms in the monestary, becuase he said they looked like the walls in the rooms known as "cells". He discovered that cells are the basic unit of life. Hooke intorduced cells to the world of science.
  • Anton van Leeuwenhoek

    Anton van Leeuwenhoek
In 1674, Leeuwenhoek improved the use of the microscope. In order to clairfy the view and magnification, Leeuwenhoek polished the lenses in the microscope. Leeuwenhoek was 16 years old when he first studied with a microscope as an intern for a cloth merechant. He then started making his own microscopes.
  • Leeuwenhoek part 2

    Leeuwenhoek part 2
Leeuwenhoek discovered animacules, which are microscopic animals and other organisims. He was the first to look at alive organisms. He studied bacteria in pond water, plaque, and sperm. He is considered the father of microbiology.
  • Matthias Schleiden

    Matthias Schleiden
Matthias Schleiden was the first scientist to contribute to the cell theory. He was a German botanist. Schleiden discovered that all plants are made of up cells. He also recognized the importance of the nuclues in a cell.
  • Cell Theory

    Cell Theory
The cell theory was developed by three scientists, but Matthias Schleiden was who first developed it in 1838. The cell theory aided in the development of Darwin's Theory of Evolution, Mendel's Laws of Inheritence, and the establisment of biochemistry. The cell theory consists of three concepts; All living things are made up of cells, cells are the basic units of structure and function in living things, and living cells come only from other living cells. The cell theory is still relevant today.
  • Theodor Schwann

    Theodor Schwann
in 1839, one year after Schleiden discovered that all plants are made up of cells, Theodor Schwann discovered that all animals are made up of cells. This is the second person to contributed to the cell theory. Schwann was a German zoologist. He was also the first perosn to use the term metablolim. Schwann studied digestion in animals.
  • Rudolph Virchow

    Rudolph Virchow
In 1855, Virchow developed the third and final part of the cell theory. He stated that all living things come from other living things. Virchow was the first to witness a cell divide. He also analysed the effects of diseses in organs in tissues in the body.
