    IN 1914 Tommy douglasas had a bone infection in his knee. he needed a surgery but none of them were succesful and they were costing his family lots of money. Until a doctor offered to do a surgery for free so he wouldn't lose his leg, the only condition is that tommy had to let the doctors students view the surgery

That is the day that there was are large Labour wages strike in winnepeg and the mayor, worried about the large amount of protesters, called the RNMP. they shot and clubbed the protesters killing two people and injuring 45 people. This is one of the many events that inspired Tommy Douglas to fight for universal healthcare.
