  • Japanese Invasion of China

    Japanese Invasion of China
    On July 7, 1937 started the Second Sino-Japanese War. China had some economic help from Germany, The Soviet Union, and the United States. Japan had eventually surrendered on September 2, 1945. In 1941 the Japanese had attacked Pearl Harbor and that merged into greater conflict causing WWII to happen.
  • Nanjing Massacre

    Nanjing Massacre
    The rape of Nanjing consisted of a mass murder and a mass rape committed by the Japanese against the people of Nanjing and the Republic of China. It started the day the Japanese captured Nanjing. 20,000-80,000 women were sexually assaulted and hundreds of thousands were killed. After the war the Chinese leaders were executed.

    German Blitzkrieg
    Blitzkrieg is a German term for "Lightning War" and is a military tactic designed to create disorganization among enemy forces through the use of mobile forces. It results in short military campaigns that preserve human lives and limits the us of artillery. The Germans tried this on Poland in 1939.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    On this day, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attack the American Naval Base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. The Japanese destroyed 20 American naval vessels, 8 giant battleships, and more then 300 planes. 2000 American soldiers and sailors were killed, and 1000 were left wounded.   • Bataan Death March

    Bataan Death March
    The U.S. had surrendered the Bataan Peninsula on the main Philippine island Luzon to the Japanese during WWII. About 75000 Filipino and American troops were forced to walk 65 miles to prison camps. They were treated terribly by the Japanese guards and the heat they had to walk in extremely harsh.   • Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

    Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
    The people of the Jewish ghetto in Nazi-occupied Warsaw, Poland had staged an armed revolt against deportations to extermination camps. This had inspired other revolts in German-occupied places in Eastern Europe. Heinrich Himmler had told the 400000 Jews that they'd be "settled" somewhere's else and the word spread that "settled" meant death.     D-Day
    156000 American, British, and Canadian troops had landed on 5 beaches along a 50 mile stretch heavily fortified coast of France’s region. It was one of the largest military assaults ever. They had conducted a large campaign to mislead the Germans about the invasion.     Adolph Hitler tried to split the allied armies in Northwest Europe by using a blitzkrieg. It was launched through the densely forested Ardennes region of Wallonia in Belgium, France, and Luxembourg. It lasted for over a year.
