Born in Nazi Occupied Goes, Netherlands. Bas' father was forced into the Nazi party as a factory worker causing the family to be split for the remainder of World War II.

After World War II, Van Fraassen along with his family reunited with their father; and later started a new life in Edmonton, Canada. Here Van Fraassen would go on to graduate from the University of Alberta.

Van Frassen was a very determined student resulting in him receiving a B.A. and M.A. from the university.

Following his success at the University of Alberta, Van Frassen went on to finish a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.

In this book Van Fraassen discusses the semantical approach made famous by Alfred Tarski. He also diverts into a discussion on logical techniques in sometimes, very complex math subjects such as calculus. "The general aim of this book is to provide a broad framework in which both classical and nonclassical logical may be studied and appraised."

In 1980, Van Fraassen released his book and possibly his most famous contribution to the scientific community. The Scientific Image was in Van Fraassen's idea of Constructive Empiricism. Essentially he created his own version of scientific anti - realism.

Van Fraassen wins the Lakatos Award for his never ending contribution to the Philosophy of Science.

Bas Van Fraassen takes a new stance on the empirical tradition of philosophy. He explains that philosophers can have a stance on certain subjects but can not have beliefs. He expands on this explaining that Empiricism is content; with Materialism is science done in a procedural fashion.

At the age of 82 years old, Bas Van Fraassen is still alive and is highly known around the world. His contribution to Philosophy and numerous other scientific studies is highly regarded and is utilized to this day from his many published books to his lectures, it is easy to say that he has left a legacy that will never be forgotten.
