    Auguste Comte who was born as Isidore-Auguste-Marie-Francois-Xavier Comte on January 20, 1798, in Montpellier in France by Mr. Louis Comte and Miss Rosalie Boyer. He was married to Caroline Massin but their marriage did not last, he remarried Clotilde de Vaux who later died of Tuberculosis. In 1826, he was taken to a mental health hospital, but left without being cured only stabilized by alienist so that he could work again on his plan.Comte later died on September 5, 1857, at the age of 58.

    Comtes Education

    Comte was educated by private tutors until he was nine years old and later attended the local lycée in Montpellier. In 1814, at an early age of just 16, he was admitted to the prestigious École Polytechnique in Paris where he was ranked fourth on the admissions list. He was forced to leave two years later when the school was closed down temporarily in 1816 by the bourbons. Auguste Comte continued his studies at the medical school at Montpellier after moving from Paris

    Comte started off doing small jobs to earn money. In August 1817, Auguste Comte met Henri de Saint-Simon, who appointed him as his secretary.In 1824, Comte stopped working with Saint-Simon. In April 1826, Comte began teaching a Course of Positive Philosophy, whose audience included some of the most famous scientists of the time such as Fourier, A. von Humboldt, and Poinsot. It was suddenly interrupted because of a ‘cerebral crisis’ due to overwork and conjugal sorrows.

    Notable Works and Contributions

    Comte first wrote about positive philosophy in a series of texts published between 1830 and 1842. In 1848,his work on general positivism was done and later published in english in 1865. Comte believe society developed through three stages that is the theological stage,metaphysical stage and the positive stage. He believes man has moved from mere speculations to more scientific approaches. Comte’s contributions to the history and philosophy of science have influenced positive methodologies.
