Ernest ruthford discovered what we now call the nucleus back in 1911. He discovered this while experimenting with alpha particles and gas atoms. What he saw was that some of the negative particles were thrown off the path. Neils Bohr studied the work of Ernest Ruthfords model and also Max Planck. He concluded that electrons travel around the nucleus in an orderly fashion.
