Joseph John Thompson discovered the electron while experimenting with a cathode ray tube to originally find out what high voltage discharge does. JJ thompson's model was called the plum pudding model because of the way it resembled plum pudding. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._J._Thomson

Ernest ruthford discovered what we now call the nucleus back in 1911. He discovered this while experimenting with alpha particles and gas atoms. What he saw was that some of the negative particles were thrown off the path. With this evidence he concluded that the middle of atoms is dense and is positivly charged. http://www.chemheritage.org/discover/online-resources/chemistry-in-history/themes/atomic-and-nuclear-structure/rutherford.aspx

Neils Bohr studied the work of Ernest Ruthfords model and also Max Planck. He concluded that electrons travel around the nucleus in an orderly fashion.

In 1932 James chadwick discovers the neutron. He found it by Doing an experiment with plutonium and candle wax. James also used information from a previous experment done by Frederic and Irene Joliot-Curie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Chadwick
