  • Carl Wilhelm Scheele

    Carl Wilhelm Scheele
In 1772, Carl Wilhelm Scheele discovered that red-hot manganese oxide produces a gas. He called the gas "fire air" because of the brilliant sparks it produced when it came in contact with hot charcoal dust.
  • Henry Cavendish & William Ramsay

In 1785 Henry Cavendish passed electricity through a sample of air from which he had removed carbon dioxide gas from. His theory was that the elctricity would joined the nitrogen and oxygen gases to create a liquid called nitrous acid (HNO3) but his disocvery could not be explained until in 1894 William Ramsay provided the answer when he removed the nitrogen form the air, he was left with a a bubble of gas which is called Argon. Not long after he discovere Krypton, Neon, Helium, Radon and Xenon.
  • Julius Lothar Meyer

    Julius Lothar Meyer
Along with Dimitri Mendeleev, Julius Meyer was also trying to prove his discovery of the periodic table. In 1868 Meyer's periodic table was assembled. His based his periodic tabe on atomic weight and arranged the first 63 known elements in the first periodic table.
  • Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev

    Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev
1865 was a significant year as that was the year that Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev created the periodic table. Mendeleev starting off creating the periodic table by researching the difference between the element and found that elements were more like eah other when their atomic number was nearly the same and then grouped them into rows and columns based on their chemical and physical properties.
  • Ernest Rutherford

    Ernest Rutherford
In 1919 Ernest Rutherford bombarded gases with alpha particles. He used gases such as oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide which had been used to fill up the apparatus in his investiations. Once he had finished his investigation he discovered that alpha particle enter the nitrogen nucleus which immediately ejected a proton.
  • James chadwick

    James chadwick
James Chadwick made the discovery of the Neutron . He did many experiments which turned out successful. He was able to determine that the neutron did exist and that its mass was about 0.1 percent more than the proton's.
  • Otto Hahn

    Otto Hahn
In 1939 Otto first published his doscovery of fissin of uranium and thorium. After that he spent years proving his theory.
