    Essie Advocates for Mental Health

    After a friend died by suicide, I upped my game in advocating for those with invisible illnesses (mainly depression.) I promoted resources on social media, shared my experiences with mental illnesses, and encouraged my peers to not lose hope and to check in on their friends. A group of friends participated in American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Out of the Darkness Walk twice to show our support for each other after the loss of our friend.

    My first official job was at a Winn-Dixie as a cashier. Having a job allowed me to buy a car so I did not have to rely on family members or friends to go places.

    I am about to graduate from FSCJ with my Associates in Arts! College has been hard! Earning this degree has taken longer than expected (which is okay) but I am ready to be done!
