American revolution timeline

  • french and indian war

    lasted 7 years long. they fought over land in the ohio valley. both sides had support from a bunch of native tribes.
  • stamp act of 1765

    british law to tax on all paper documents in american colonies. widespread protest and resistance on this law. the act was to help pay for protecting the american colonies.
  • boston massacre

    rallying a cry for independence. killed five people. helped show the colonists willingness to fight for freedom
  • the boston tea party

    protest against the taxation without representation. the dumped 1.5 millions dollars(in todays money) worth of tea in the harbor. led to tension between the othor colonies.
  • First continental congress

    a meeting was held with 12 of the 13 colonies in america. they called for a boycott of british goods. in response of the awful laws that were passed by the british
  • battles of lexington and concord

    the brittish was sent to take military supplies stored in concord. first shots fired are known now as "shot heard 'round the world. first fight in the revolutionary war
  • second continental congress meeting

    created a continental army and make george washington commander-in-cheif. declared the colonies independence issuing the declaration of independence . first constitution of the usa was made.
  • the battle of bunker hill

    the british won the battle of bunker hill. the battle was because they felt their rebelion was surpressed. was a very hard fight for them.
  • declaration of independence adopted

    adopted by the continental congress. declared all 13 colonies independence from great britian. this solidified all the colonies to become one one nation
  • battle of trenton

    new york ran out of supplies so they went to new jersey to steal all their stuff
  • articles of confederation created

    created a weak government with limited powers. made a friendship between the 13 states of america. struggled to actually hold authority.
  • battle of camden

    america lost. they fought because america had a bunch of better military stuff.
  • battle of yorktown

    resulted in the surrender of the british army. fought for independence.
  • constitutional convention

    was a gathering of delegates from 12 of the 13 states. goal was to discuss weakness in the articles of confederation. this meeting established legislative, executive and judical branches as we know it today.
  • great compromise

    created the structure of congress as we know it today. created a house of representatives based on population to represent each state. regardless the size of the state there will be 2 senators ensuring equal representation.
