  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was passed which means The tax stamps had to be put on 54 kinds of papers, including playing cards, newspapers, wills and licenses and could be paid in gold or silver
  • NYC meeting

    nine colonies sent people to a meeting in New York City to talk about the Stamp Act andat the meeting They sent a letter asking Britain to repeal the Stamp Act. Sadly The British would not listen. Instead they placed new taxes on the colonies.
  • Townsend Act

    The British passed the Townsend Act. This act placed taxes on tea, glass, paper, and paint.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The people were angered by the new act, even though the already were refusing taxes and not buying british goods they decided to do more, so group of Massachusetts colonists disguised as Mohawk Indians board three British tea ships and dump 342 chests of tea into the harbor.
  • War beginging between colonists and the British army

    War starting in Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts. Meeting soon afterward, the Second Continental Congress set up an army, called the Continental Army. George Washington served as its commander in chief.

    The Treaty of Paris, signed in 1783, recognized the independence of the American colonies. The war was now over and America got freedom

    General Cornwallis was forced to surrender by American and the French forces, when knowing this the great British empire decided to end the war.
