    The leader of the Sons of Liberty was Samuel Adams. Angry crowds beat people who helped collect taxes and burned down tax buildings
  • Townshend Act of 1767

    Townshend Act of 1767
    Colonists insisted they would not pay new taxes of any sort to parliament. In response the Boston Massacre took place causing large riots.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Few colonial legislatures paid attention to the riots until the governor dissolved the Massachusetts legislature in retaliation for their protests. Parliament eventually backed down and the British withdrew troops from Boston. Read more by clicking here

    Parliaments passed a law allowing a company to sell directly to the colonists, this made tea cheaper than to smuggle tea, even with taxes. December 1773, Boston Patriots boarded British ships with tea and dumped the tea into the harbor

    To punish Boston, Parliament passed the Coercive Acts. Laws closed ports in Boston until the destroyed tea was paid off including taxes.

    April 19, 1775 wars broke out in Lexington and Concord. General Thomas Gage sent troops to arrest John Hancock and Samuel Adams and to take Patriot weapons in Concord.

    A combination of American and French forces declared war with the British in Yorktown, Virginia. This Would be the last war in the American Revolution as Charles Cornwallis, general and official of the British army, surrendered.
  • Treaty of Paris

    1783 the Treaty of Paris ended the war triumphantly for the British who kept Canada, Great Lakes region and the Ohio River Valley. The Mississippi River became Boundary between the British and Spanish claims in North America.
