    French and Indian War

    The conflict in North America that was part of a worldwide struggle between France and Britain. Britain defeated France and gained French Canada.
  • Stamp Act

    The law passed by Parliament that required all legal and commercial documents to cary an official stamp showing a tax hold had been paid.
  • Boston Massacre

    The clash between British soldiers and Boston colonists. Five colonists were killed.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The dumping of 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor by a group of colonists called the Sons of Liberty to protest the tea act.
  • Intolerabole Acts

    The series of laws made by parliament to punish Massachusetts' colonists for the Boston Tea Party. The British called the Intolerable acts the Coercive Acts.
  • First Continental Congress

    The meeting of delegates from all colonies except Georgia to uphold colonial rights.
  • Paul Revere's Midnight Ride

    Paul Revere and William Dawes were spreading news about Bristish troop movements. They called out "the regulars are coming" or "the redcoats are coming"
  • Lexington and Concord

    The first battles of the revolutionary war were at Lexington and Concord. The "shot heard 'round the world" started the battle. Paul Revere and William Dawes had alerted colonists about Bristish troop movements the night before.
  • Battle of Bunker hill

    The British won the Battle of Bunker hill. They suffered great losses that included over 800 wounded and 226 killed.
  • Common Sense published

    The publication of the pamphlet covinced many Americans that a complete break with Britain was necessary. Common Sense was written by Thomas Paine.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The document where the colonies declared independence from Britain. Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. The continental Congress adopted the statement on July 4th.
  • British Capture New York

    The British captured New York city because it had the largest population of loyalists. The patriots didn't regain New York untill the Revolutionary War was over.
  • Washington crosses the Delaware

    General George Washington and the men of the Continental army and militia crossed the Delaware river on christmas night. They marched to Trenton, New Jersey and launched a surprise on Hessian troops.
  • Battle of Trenton

    After Washington's army crossed the Delaware river, they launched a surprise attack on Hessian troops and in 1 hour captured 1000 prisoners and took Trenton.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Arnold and Gate's American army and Burgoyne's army crashed together and the Americans won. The Battle of Saratoga convinced the French to join the war as an ally of the Americans.
  • Articles of Confederation

    This document served as the United States' first constitution. It was used untill the present day constitution went into effect.

    Valley Forge

    The Continental army soldiers camped at Valley Forge through 1777-1778. Soldiers lived in terrible conditions with well worn through shoes and little clothing.
  • Battle of Cowpens

    The Americans won the battlle because of Daniel Morgan's skillful plan. The battle's name comes from the well known landmark where it occured.
  • Victory at Yorktown

    British General Lord Cornwallis surrendered five thousand British soldiers to American forces and brought an end to the American Revolution.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The American Revolution officially came to an end when representatives of the United States, Great Britain, Spain, and France signed the Treaty of Paris. The signing signified America's status as a free nation.
