    One of the first conglomerates of companies that hired immigrants to work hard hours with poor wages during the Industrialization period. Andrew Carnegie's steel mill represents one of the many companies that hired immigrants and after they came over to the United States.

    Chinese Exclusion Act
    A law that was created to suspend immigration to Chinese immigrants coming to the United States. It was repealed in the 1943. This law represents the hypocrisy of American society because Immigrants where integral to the building of the society but were not treated as so.
  • Haymarket Square Riot

    Haymarket Square Riot
    The riot insued between anarchists and police in Chicago during a Workers Rally. Of the eight men indicted for the riot, seven of them were immigrants. The riot was a representation of Immigrants fighting back against the unjust realities they lived in.
  • Bay View Massacre

    Bay View Massacre
    The massacre was a culmination of a protest by Polish immigrant workers in Bay View Milwaulkee. who demanded an 8-hour day. Seven people died as a result. The Haymarket and Bay View riots represent many other riots that happened across the nation as a result of ideologies that came from immigrants in Europe.

    Ellis Island was the Immigration Center for the United States on the East Coast. It was considerd the gateway of America for over 12 million immigrants who came through there to the United States. Ellis Island marks a time of acceptance for immigrants because of the need of a strong and large labor force.

    An informal agreement that barred Japanese from coming to the United States in the early 1900's. The agreement represents a step backwards in American policy towards immigrants. As Ellis Island was becoming a popular place for immigrants to come in, Asian immigrants where being subjugated to discrimination from the government.

    Angel Island was known as the Ellis Island of the west when it opened off the coast of San Francisco. Due to the Chinese Exclusion act and the Gentlemen's agreement, many of the immigrants trying to enter the United States where forced to stay on the island in order to try and receive their status as an immigrant. This is a representation of the hypocrisy of US government when it came to Asian countries.
  • The Buford Deportations

    The Buford Deportations
    The Buford was a ship that was being used for deportations of Immigrants. On this particular ship, 249 Russins where being deported either because of their work in previous riots or their involvment with the Union of Russian Workers, an anarchist group. The Buford deportations represent the strict views that the US government had on immigrants now that industrialization was coming to a close.
