Alien Sedtion Act
This act only allowed citizenship after 14 years of residency. Also, it allowed for the government and its officials to deport dangerious aliens. The time ammount was later lowered to only 5 years. -
Origin of The Problem
President Chester Arthur signs a Federal law that prevents convicts from entering the United States..It was during this time that actions were made against immigrants by immigration officials not to allow Chinese and mentally disabled. -
WW2
The United States Government starts importing Mexican workers to help as temps for agricultural work for the Country. This caused tension between the masses when soilders came home and their job had been given to cheaper foreighn workers. -
"Operation Wetback"
President Eisenhower called for the execution of operation wetback in 1954. This operation rounded up thousands of illegal immigrants and sent them back to Mexico. This operation was conducted because of the fear that they were taking the American workers wages. -
Birth right Citizenship 1960s-present
Many illegals used the misunderstood 14th amendments that says anyone who is born on US soild is an American Citizen. This has become a problem with many Americans becasue it gives them a less chance of being deported if found to be illegal and also qualifies them for tax payer paid benfits. -
Outside Labor Ends
"Tempory work" ends. Over 21,000 come over the borders to comtinue to work in American factories and farms. This is the first time in American history that the border patrol had reported being overwelmed with those trying to cross illegally. -
Refugee Act of 1980
10 million immigrants are given permanant citizenship in the USA in part of dealing with the Cuban and Vietnamese crisis. This sparks even more tension with Mexican illegals who have been trying to gain citizenship for years. -
IRCA
The IRCA is the biggest ammnesty act for illegal immigrants that were currently in the US. This policy allowed for immigrants who had been in America for 5 or more years to be granted temporary legal status with the posability to be upgraded in the future. -
Illegal Immigration reform
The Illegal Immigration reform was President Clintons crack at the problem. However the policy had little to know positive outcome because of other countries leaders fearing that mass deportation would end the untaxed money that is sent back home from illegal workers already in the USA. -
Amnesty Comes late
Immigrants who are in the USA illegally that claim they should have been legalized in the 1986 round of amnesties are given citiznship. -
G.W Bush Tenure
During the Bush era the lack of support for border patrol units and the lack of enforcment through out the Country led to a huge increase in illegal immigration in the USA and in the workplace. It was estimated that 10-20 million illegals were living in America. This outraged the American public and led to many harsh policies being passed by the States to try and help rid their State of the problem. -
Joe Arpaio Racial Profiling Case
Melendres vs. Arpaio is the first of many lawsuits against the Arizona sheriff acused of his department executing racial profiling tactics of Mexicans. It was said that Melendres was illegally detained for 9 hours in what he thought was racial profiling him as being illegal. -
Justice Department Investigation
Arizona and its Sheriffs department go under investagation for their accused racial profiling by the Department of Civil Rights Divison. -
Re-introduction to the Dream Act
This bill was created to give illegal immigrants who came to the Country as minors to be able to be given tempory citizenship on good merit and if they have completed their high school education here in the USA. Another part of the bill would give extended citizenship for those who complete a 4 year or high degree or serve in th Military. -
SB 1070
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signs sb 1070 bill requiring immigrants in Arizona for more then 30 days will have to have proper documnetation at all times. Failure of doing this would result in a misdemeanor charge. This bill sparked out rage through out the entire Country and has been subject to much controversy. -
Recent and Present day Problems
Drug cartels are now in charge of much of the Mexican side of the border and illegally transport a majority of drugs found in America by users. This is a growing and dangerious problem that has left Mexico and American Border times in violence and hardships.
