Thomas F. Dixon published a novel called The Clansman, this novel is a historical romance of the Ku Klux Klan, it made them seem like hero and defenders of the south. The book was later turned into a movie. -

Congress declared war against Germany on this day even though the United States was completely unprepared. -

This new act allowed the government to grow the military through advertisement. -
Espionage Act
This act would punish people if they tried to mess with foreign relations. -
Sedition Act
This act is much like the Espionage Act, it took away people's rights of publicly resisting war. -
Women Joined the Marine Corps
The first group of women joined the Marine Corps at this time. They started to join in July, this was the first time a women enrolled for service. -
League of Nations
President Wilson had to deal with trying to get the League of Nations established. The treaty was finally signed at this time and President Wilson was able to return home.
