Lewis and Clark Expedition
Lewis and Clark begin their expedition on the west. They were sent to explore and document their findings in the western frontier. Lewis and Clark were helped along with Sacajawea. -
The Safety Elevator is Invented
The safety elevator made skyscrapers a reality. It would no longer be a challenge for civilians to get to the upper floors. People would no longer have to climb hundreds of flights of stairs with this invention. -
Start of Civil War
The start of the civil war. This war would be the bloodiest war in American history. The civil was was the north against the south, it mainly started because of slavery and because the south succeeded from the union. -
Battle of Gettysburg
This battle was the bloodiest battle of the war. It was Lee’s second and last attempt to invade the North. The North was the victor of the battle. -
Civil War Ends
The civil war ends as the south surrenders to the north. The end of the war meant no slavery throughout the United States. The south however would still hold resentment towards the north as well as African Americans. -
Abraham Lincoln is Assassinated
Abraham Lincoln is assassinated in fords theater. The civil war had just ended and Lincoln had started his second term. Lincoln’s killer was John Wilkes Booth. -
The 14th Amendment
The 14th amendment is passed. This amendment was passed to give citizenship to all citizens. It was an effort in reconstruction. -
15th Amendment Passed
The 15th amendment is passed. This granted blacks the right to vote. This would upset many southerners in Jim Crows south. This would lead to laws being passed to restrict African Americans right to vote. -
Reconstruction Ends
Reconstruction was a period in time in which the north had tried to help the southern states reconstruct as well as help African Americans. This reconstruction period ended. It ended in a deal from the north to south so the republicans could win the presidency. -
The First Skyscraper is Built in the U.S.
Skyscrapers were built in the U.S. to preserve space in cities. These were made as a result of new technological advances. Many skyscrapers are still standing in the U.S. today. -
Oklahoma Land Rush
The Oklahoma Land rush, like the name gives away was a rush for land. It was some of the last free land in the west and hundreds of people came out to try to get their piece. This event is also where the term “Oklahoma Sooners” comes from. -
Wonder Knee Massacre
The wounded Knee Massacre was the killing of approximately 300 Native Americans by the United States Army. Many women and children were killed in this event. This is a dark spot during the western frontier. -
Grandfather Clause Passed
The Grandfather Clause was passed that were put in place to retract African Americans right to vote. This law made it harder for many blacks to vote considering their grandfathers could not vote. It made voting for African Americans almost impossible. -
The Sinking of the USS Maine
The sinking of the uss Maine was the final straw before the U.S. declared was on Spain. There was already tension between the public of the U.S. and Spain. The explosion of the Maine sent the two countries into war. -
Start of Spanish American War
The war has begun. This would be a pivotal war in United States history. This war would show the world just how powerful America really was. -
The End of the Spanish American War
The Spanish American war was a short, divisive American Victory. It made the Untied States a World Superpower. It also granted the U.S. the colonies of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and The Philippines. -
