  • First commercial cellulosic ethanol plant goes into production

    This was another major step towards relying on alternative energy sources that do not pollute.
  • American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is passed

    This act gave lots of money to energy plants so they can start researching ways to use alternative and renewable energy sources
  • President Obama issues presidential directive to the USDA

    The reason behind this is that Mr. President wanted the USDA to expand access to biofuels.
  • US announces $467 million in Recovery Act

    The money was used to fund solar and geothermal energy development for more alternative energy sources.
  • The US NRC approves new nuclear power plants for the first time since 1978

    This is a huge breakthrough in energy, but people realized soon after that nuclear power plants release lots of nuclear waste.
  • President Obama releases his Climate Action Plan

    The plan consisted of increased use of renewable energy sources and carbon pollution restrictions for big power plants.
