1752- (age 7) Volta's father dies and his uncles take over the handling of his education. Volta is enrolled in a religious school.

1765- (age 20) Volta's wealthy friend, Giulio Cesare Gattoni, allowed Volta to use the physics labratory in his home for experiments.

1774- Volta appointed professor of physics of the high school in Como

1774-1775- Invented electrophorus

1775- Volta wrote letter to Joseph Priestly to tell him about his invention, the electrophorus, and to ask if it was a new invention. Priestly informed him that it had been invented by Johann Wilcke in 1762.

1776 - Volta studies marsh gas and discovers methane gas. He used the research of Benjamin Franklin to discover how to ignite the gas with a spark.

1796- discovered that vapor pressure of liquid has nothing to do with the atmospheric pressure and is completely dependent on temperature

1797-Volta proved his "contact theory" of electricity

1800- Volta invented the battery and proved the theory of "animal electricity" to be wrong
