  • Black Codes

    Black Codes
    Early in 1866, Southern States made new laws called Black Codes. Black codes were laws and regulations to prevent Africian Americans from living life like a white male. These black codes resticted blacks to own or rent farms. If they did not have a job, officials could arrest or fine them. These made it much easier for whites to take advantage of the Africian Americans.
  • Civil Rights Act

    Civil Rights Act
    A new law was passed in 1866 to give federal government permission to get involved in state affairs to prevent slavery. These acts gave citizenship to african americans in the United States.
  • Reconstruction Acts

    Reconstruction Acts
    The first reconstruction law made states that had not ratified the Fourteenth Amendment to form new governments. The second reconstruction act helped organize the sate constitutional conventions by empowering the military army to register voters in each district.
  • 14th Amendment

    14th Amendment
    The 14th amendment wasvery important. It state, "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jrusdiction tereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State within they reside." It is basically saying, This change in law protected African Americans and gave them equal rights.
  • Fifteenth Amendment

    Fifteenth Amendment
    To finish off reconstuction in 1869, congress proposed a new amendment. It states that state and governments could not deny any male citizent to vote based on the race or color. The states ratified this amendment in 1870. They thought that they were doing good in giving Africian Amrican men the right to vote no matter their race.
