Chaptert 7: Alai and His Qualities
Alai shows early on in the chapter that he notices Ender's idiosycracies, like how Ender doesn't finish his food, ever. This suggestd he pays attention to detail, especially when it comes to Ender. When Ender is quickly promoted to another army he becomes upset. Alai comforts him by saying there is nothing to be upset about, then shares with him a word that Ender will always hold sacred. "Salaam", which means peace, is the number one tie in Alai and Ender's friendship, Ender now trusts Alai. -
Chapter 8: Alai Sees Ender's Importance
When Ender runs an extra practice fr his launchy friends and himself, other armies get angry and don't want him to be training them in the wrong way. Concerned for everyone, Ender decides that he will stop the training. ALai immediately rebuttles and tells him that he will always support Ender and any decision he makes. This implies that ALai will stand by Ender no matter whta he choooses. -
Chapter 10: The difficulties of being commander ( Forshadowing)
When Ender becomes commander of his own army, he realizes that Alai is now his assigned enemy. As much as he doesn not want to admit it, he can never be the same kind of friend with Alai. Ender realizes that he finds it much easier to say WE instead of I when it comes to himself and Alai. He feels that no matter the circumstances, he will always have a special connection with Alai. -
Chapter 14: All coming together
Ender is enrolled in COMMAND SCHOOL. He must work with an entire fleet of squadron leaders. Luckily, he knows every single one of them. This is when he really gets s see how well they can work together. Alai is described as almost being just as good of a tactician as Ender and he can be trusted entirely with a whole half of a fleet with vague instructions. Alai ultimately brings a very valuable quality in Ender's victory as someone Ender can ultimately trust no matter what.
