    Founding of the NAACP
    NAACP foundation The NAACP is the nation's oldest, largest and most widely recognized civil rights organization.They are the premier supporters for civil rights in their communities, campaigning for equal opportunity,rights, and conducting voter mobilization.
  • Harlem Renaissance

    Harle Renaissance After the civil war, the newly free colored people searched for a place where the could explore their new identities. They found what they were looking for in Harlem.Harlem then gained it's legendary name of "the capitol of black America".
  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    Brown vs. Board of Education
    An all white school district forced 7-year-old Linda Brown to walk six blocks to catch a bus to an all-black school. Her family and 12 others joined the NAACPto file a lawsuit against the white school district. The courts found the racial segragation as a voilation against the 14th amendment and unconstitutional.

    <ahref='http://http://history1900s.about.com/od/1950s/qt/emmetttill.htm' >Emmett Till Murder</a> On the night of August 28, 1955, Rob Bryant and J.W. Millam abducted 14-year-old Emmett Till from his great-uncles house in the middle of the night. over the course of two days, they beat him, shot him in the head and threw his body in the Tallahatchie River.The men who did this were found not-guilty by a trial of white peers.Two months after the trial, they confessed to the murder during an interview with Look Magazine.
  • Rosa Parks Bus Boycott

    Rosa Parks Bus Boycott
    Twenty-four hours after Rosa's arrest, Edgar Nixon bailed her out. Many fliers went out then anounceibg the boycott of the buses.During the boycott, a carpool of almost 300 cars, all volunteer, was used for the transportation of the colored community. Once started,the boycott lasted for 381 days. As a result of the boycott, the busing company had lost 75% of their bus drivers and laws were passed ending segragation on public transportation.

    Little Rock 9
    Nine colored students were schedueled to attend Little Rock school. They would be driven in by police cars. They still were not allowed in the school and were taken home but one girl didnt get the message. She had to walk 100 yards to a bus stop, followed by a mob who were threatening to kill her and cursing at her. The colored students attempted to go back on Sept. 23, but not without diffculty.They once again went home. Not until the 25th were they allowed in the school,but only with security.

  • Sixteenth Street Baptist Church Bombing

    Sixteenth Street Baptist Church Bombing
    On this day, the Klu Klux Klan bombed the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, killing four innocent girls.Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wesley were dressed in their Sunday best ready to lead their adult groups. Just momebts before the bomb, they had been excitedly talking about their first day of school, not knowing that they wouldn't even make it home that night. Witout warning, the bomb hit, killing all four of them.
  • Martin Luther King Assassination

    Martin Luther King Assassination
    At 6:01 PM, Martin Luther King Jr. got shot while standing on his balcony. The bullet went in through his cheek and travled down his throat. They rushed him imediately to the hospital where they pronounced him dead at 7:05 PM.
