    Slavery began in America, when the African American slaves were taken to Jamestown, Virginia.

    Harriet Tubman was a part of the Underground Railroad. She was a slave, but in 1849 she fled slavery and left her family and husband behind, in order to successfully escape. She returned to the south at least 19 times, sending her family and hundreds of other slaves to the north where the could live freely.

    Martin Luther King Jr was shot to death at a hotel in Memphis, Tennessee. The person behind the gunshot was James Earl Ray, who shot Martin Luther King Jr in the neck, from over a 200 feet distance. James Earl Ray was arrested on June 8th from his hotel.
