This was the first battle of the Revolutionary War. The French and the Indians allied against Britain because they both wanted the Ohio River territory and Native American areas found there.

Created by Charles Townshend, they were made to collect revenue from the Colonists. They put custom duties on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea imports. This caused the Boston Tea Party.

- What happened was the colonists became angry with the British Soldiers and were said to be throwing stones and stickes, and even though the general said not to fire one fire was accidently shot became many, and 5 people were killed -
The Tea Act was an Act of the Parliament of Great Britain. Its principal overt objective was to reduce the massive surplus of tea held by the financially troubled British East India Company in its London warehouses and to help the struggling company survive. They believed they had no obligation to pay taxes to a Parliament that they were not representative of so they dressed as Indians, broke open over $70,000 worth of tea in boxes, and dumped it overboard.
The British gave the Colonists more direct taxes because of it, leading to the Intolerable Acts.

Britain lead a surprise attack on Lexington, planning to kidnap Sam Adams and John Hancock
Word was leaked and the Colonists were warned that the British were coming by sea because of Paul Revere’s lanterns. They were able to fight back.

Concerned with growing unrest in the countryside, British General Thomas Gage, the military governor in Boston, dispatched troops in April 1775 to Concord to seize munitions being stockpiled by the colonial militia. While en route, British soldiers clashed with colonists at Lexington and then fought a pitched battle with even more colonial militia at Concord. -

The Olive Branch Petition was adopted by the Continental Congress in July 1775 in a final attempt to avoid a full-blown war between the Thirteen Colonies that the Congress represented, and Great Britain. The petition affirmed American loyalty to Great Britain and entreated the king to prevent further conflict. -
