  • First ALI Model Abortion

    The govenor of Colorado signed the first 'liberalized' ALI-model abortion law. This allows abortion in the cases of severe mental or physical disability of the mother or child as well as cases of rape. ALI is American Law Institute.
  • First Supreme Court Ruling

    United States v. Vuitch was the first Supreme Court ruling regarding abortion. ,This upheld the District of Columbia law permitting abortion only to preserve a woman's life or "health." The ruling defined 'health' as psychological and physical health, expanding abortion rights for every reason.
  • Roe v. Wade

    This is a landmark case in regards to abortion. This new law made it legal for woman to recieve safe abortions from well-trained medical practitioners.
  • Manslaughter Charges

    Kenneth C. Edelin, an abortionist, is found guilty of manslaughter of an unborn child.
    This is then overturned in 1976.
  • PAC

    National Right to Life PAC is organized.
  • Planned Parenthood v. Casey

    Supreme Court ruled in favor of Planned Parenthood v. Casey. This established that states can restrict pre-viability abortions. Restrictions can be placed on getting abortions while in the first trimester as long as they do not put a 'burden' on the woman.
  • RU 486

    Those in faavor of pro-life demonstrate against RU 486 at sites across the United States.
  • Partial Birth Ban Act

    The U.S. Senate passes the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, but in April of 1996, President Clinton issues his first veto of the law. This abortion is administered in the late second or early third trimester. This procedure is where the fetus is partially delivered before being killed.
  • Anti-abortion Violence

    Two bomb blasts an hour apart in Atlantic, destroying the abortion clinic, and harming those inside.
  • Approval Of RU-486

    Food and Drug Administration approves RU-486 as an option for abortion.
  • Federal Ban

    A federal ban on abortion procedures is passed. The National Abortion Federation immediately challenges the law in court, and they are successful in stopping the enforcement of the law.

    Paul Hill, who was a former minister, was executed by injection. He was the first person put to death in the U.S. for anti-abortion violence.
