  • Trumans support

    President Truman expresses his support for normal civil right measures after hearing a African American vetern was beaten and blinded by a white mob when he returned to his home town after the war.
  • Jackie Robinson

    Jackie Robinson get signed over with the Brooklen Dodger, desegregating major league baseball. His first mlb game was on April 15, 1947 against the Boston Braves. Everytime he was called up to the plate he was called really harsh names. Fans wanted him off the team and never back into baseball again.
  • Trumans platform

    Truman backs a strong civil right platform. In July he issues an executive order desegragating the military and prohibiting discrimination in the hiring of federal employees.
  • Order 9981

    President Truman huld the executive order 9981. Establishing equality of treatment and opportunity in the Armed Services for people of all race, religion, or national orgins.
  • Trumans Attempt!

    President truman attempts to pass the civil rights legislation through congress. He faces opposition from southern democrats who kill bills in the Senate by fillbustering. Its pretty much impossible to pass legislature as long as the southern democrats and conservative republicans continue to oppose it.
  • Thurgood Marshall

    Thurgood Marshall and a team of NAACP lawyers win the landmark Brown v Board of education case. The supreme court declares in a 9-0 decision that "seperate" is "inhequity unequal". Within a year Brown 2, the court demands that school authorities submit plans for how they would insure desegregation.
  • Rosa Parks

    Rosa Parks begins the Montgomery, Alabama bus boycott. Martin Luther King Jr rises to national prominence as a civil right leader. Within the year Montgomery bus systems been desegregated.
  • Racial integregation

    Legislatures in the U.S Congress opposed to racial integregation in public places. It was signed by 99 democrats and 2 republicans. It was largely drawn up to Landmark surpreme court 1954 ruling Brown v. Board of education.
  • Declaration of Constitutional

    More than one hundred southern Congress and Senators sign a Declaration of Constitutional principles. Pledging their resistance to desegregation.
  • Central High School

    The governor of Arkansas denies nine black students enrolling the Centrall high school of little rock. So Eisenhower sends federal troops to support integregation of that school. Later in the year congress passes the first civil rights law since reconstruction giving the federal government more power to succeed black voters rights.
  • College Freshmen

    Four Black College freshman sit in at a white only lunch center in Greensboro, North Carolina. The black waitress refuses to serve them anything and pretty much they were forced to leave under pressure and keep them from getting in trouble.
