    The first video games begin to be introduced and are a phenomon which has grown and shaped the lives of many Australians then and today. A specific game which was introduced included Steeve Russel's 'Space War!' which was the first game ever invented for computer use.

    Touch Tone replaces Rotary Dial
    In the year 1963, the commonly used rotary dial begun to be replaced by the 'Touch Tone' pad. This technology revolutionised the way and speed in which phone calls were able to be made, through the use of buttons rather than repetitively turning a dial and waiting gor it to come back to turn it again.

    AT&T introduces stored program controlled switching. (SPC) is the technical name used for telephone exchanges controlled by a computer program stored in the memory of the system. This allowed more sophisticated calling features and improved the reliability of communication.

    Larry Roberts at the Advanced Research Projects Agency publishes a paper proposing ARPANET. This system would eventually evolve to become the world wide web, allowing numerous quicker, cheaper and efficient means of communication.
  • ARPANET is Deployed

    ARPANET is deployed when the first message is sent by UCLA student programmer Charley Kline, at 10:30 p.m, on October 29, 1969.
  • CD's Marketed

    Compact discs, (CD's) are marketed for the first time. This allows a whole new way of storing data for the means of entertainment and was the foundation for mediums such as the 'DVD'

    Ray Tomlinson created the first ARPANET email application when he updated SNDMSG by adding a program called CPYNET capable of copying files over the network, and informed his colleagues by sending them an email using the new program with instructions on how to use it. This was the foundation to the extremely common and effecient e-mailing system we use today and introduced a cheaper, quicker and more reliable method of communication.

    First cellular mobile telephone service (1G Analogue Cellular) is offered, in Saudi Arabia and Scandinavia. A new telephone service, DIAL-IT® allowed a caller to listen to the voice communications between the Space Shuttle Columbia and the ground command center.

    In 1988 he was able to draft and write up the first IRC server and client programs. After creating some of these programmes Jarkko Oikarinen continued to develop and enhance the overall function of these computers for four more years. This technology allowed the use of instant messaging, without the phyisical presence of a conversation. This formed a new and very cheap way of communication.

    The DVD was an advancement of the CD and was introduced in 1993. It allowed data previously only able to be stored on a video casette onto a disc drive. This improved the quality of entertainment experienced by those who began using the technology.

    A very common and outstnding piece of technology used to hold mp3 files (audio files) which could be taken anywhere. This allowed music to be transferred and enjoyed in a way which had never been experienced before as well as allow many to share there music and expand their musical intrests

    The Iphone, considered to be one of the greatest inventions of all time combines the use of touch, microphone, speakers and satellite technology to become one of the most portable and advanced portable mediems currently in use.
