  • Special Congress Starts

    A special session that lasted nearly 100 days, 77 laws were passed by congress during this period. These laws were to tackle the great depression.
  • First fireside Chat

    Roosevelt's first of many fireside chats, focus was on Banking. Explained to the US population of how the government was going to handle the Banking crisis
  • Banking Act of 1933

    One of many programs from the New Deal. Established the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Separated commercial banking from investment banking.
  • 21st Amendment

    Ended prohibition by repealing the 18th amendment. Allowed the government to tax alcohol now that it was made legal.

    Second New Deal

    Considered the second new deal due to the new stage of New Deal Programs by FDR. Helped address issue with elderly, poor, and unemployed.
  • Social Security Act

    An insurance program to pay retired workers, who were 65 or older in order to sustain an income after retirement. Social security still exist today.
  • United States Housing Act of 1937

    Creates the United States Housing Authority (USHA). Purpose was to construct hundreds of affordable housing developments for Americans.
  • Munich Agreement

    Allowed Nazi Germany to take the Sudetenland, an attempt of appeasement. Only lead to Nazi Germany changing its sights to Poland
  • Reorganization Act of 1939

    Creates new agencies as well as consolidating previous ones. The Public Works Administration and Works Progress Administration are combined into a new Federal works agency.
  • Destroyers for Bases

    Agreement with the United States and United Kingdom. 50 old but usable destroyers were given to the UK in exchange for rights to build Military bases in the Caribbean
  • Lend Lease Act

    Allowed the United States to lend/lease war supplies to the United Kingdom and other Allied powers.

  • Beginning of Food Rationing

    Government began rationing food like coffee, followed by meat and other food.
  • Japanese Interment Camps

    Relocated over 100,000 Japanese Americans from their homes in the Pacific Coast. Was enacted by FDR
  • War Production Board

    Directed industrial production programs. Converted many factories into industries for weapons and other military equipment for the war.
  • Battle of Midway

    A naval battle and one of the largest and most significant in the Pacific front. Was an American victory and resulted in a costly defeat for the Japanese who would never fully recover from.
  • Operation Torch

    Allied invasion of North Africa, created by America and the United States. Was a success and helped secure a future invasion of Italy
  • Allied invasion of Sicily

    Led by the Allied forces such as the United States and UK. Was a successful invasion, and lead to the surrender of Italy.
  • D-day

    Apart of Operation Overlord, was the largest naval invasion in History. A victory for the allies and would lead to Frances liberation.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    A bloody battle between the Americans and Japanese in the island of Iwo Jima. Was a US victory.
  • Nazi Germany Surrenders

    Marks the end of World War 2 on the European front. Was unconditional surrender. Allied focus could now fully shift to Japan.
  • Atomic Bombings

    The city of Hiroshima would be hit with a Atomic Bomb in August 6th followed by Nagasaki in the 9th.
  • Japanese Surrender

    Marks the end of WW2. Was after the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
