    The issue of this case was on the purpose of affirmative action programs and for barring the use of race for excluding an applicant in a college admissions program. The court decided that affirmative action programs were constitutional and that a system based on race was unconstitutional. The effect of this case was that they extended the gains for racial minorities and minimized white opposition through affirmative action.
