41,681 immigrants were admitted to Canada.

  • The first immigrants

    The first immigrants
41,681 immigrants were admitted to Canada.
I found this to be the most important one because it increases the amount of different cultures that are represented in our country.

  • Head tax increased for the Chinese.

Head tax increased for the Chinese.
Chinese head tax increased to $500. From 1901 to 1918, $18 million was collected from Chinese immigrants (compared to $10 million spent on promoting immigration from Europe).
I picked this to be one of the ten most significant immigration events because I find it making me unhappy about how the money and taxes that people have to pay keeps incresing more and more each year. That makes it hard for people to pay for the other stuff they need and they end up with a very little amount of money
  • Japenese Immigrants limited

    Japenese Immigrants limited
A government entrustment to Japan lead to an contract whereby the Japanese government would willingly limit immigration of Japanese to Canada to 400 a year.
I personally thought it was strange that Canadian people would want to limit the amount of Japenese immigrants, and that Japenese would agree to it.
  • Border

    Border
An inspection service was installed in the Canada- U.S. border.
This is important because it makes Canada and the United States safer places to be because nothing dangerous can be let in.
  • Women

    Women
First Caribbean Domestic Scheme: 100 Guadeloupian women came to Québec. This is important to me because I am a women/girl and I think that our country is better with different cultures in it.
  • War

    War
Very limited immigration during the war.
This one stuck out at me because I find it sad how people were locked up in there homes because if they stepped out they might be shot. That is the main reason why there was little immigration during that war.
  • Jobs

    Jobs
At the end of war, immigrants were dismissed from some jobs in order to offer work to returning soldiers.
I picked this one because it meant war was over and done with. I think that that is one of the most important events (war ending).
  • Chinese Immigration Act.

    Chinese Immigration Act.
This Act denied all Chinese requests to settle into Canada, except representatives, students, kids of Canadians and an investor class. Aside from objections from the Chinese community in Canada, there were no opinions of denial. The day when this actually came into power was July 1st.
This is an important event to me because I believe that everyone in the world should have an even chance to do and try things. And that there race shouldn’t affect there abilities.
  • Undesirable immigrants.

    Undesirable immigrants.
Deportations of immigrants who had organized or participated in strikes or other organized labor activities. Winnipeg Mayor Ralph Webb campaigned to expel and prevent the entrance of communists and agitators. He urged the "deportation of all undesirables".
I picked this because I thought it was unfair and inconsiderate to those people and that it was stereotyping because you don’t know a person until you really ‘know’ them.
  • Sponsorship ability.

    Sponsorship ability.
Order in council issued letting legal residents not just citizens to sponsor fiancé (e) s, spouses, and unmarried children.
This is important to me because, that means more people can be let in from being sponsored and it would really make a good impression on our country knowing that we sponsor to let others in to our country.
