  • Declaration of War

    Japan declares war on Spain due to the stratefic location of their Pacific colonies.
  • Battle of Manila Bay

    The Imperial Japanese Navy, which set sail before the declaration of war, surprises the small Spanish naval forces in the area and quickly dispatches them to the bottom.
  • Battle for Manila

    The Imperial Japanese Army lands on Manila and, in conjunction with Filipino rebels, easily defeats the small Spanish garrison.
  • Rebellion in the Philippines

    Filipino Rebels, despite having helped the Japanese capture Manila, are quickly disillusioned and begin a gurreula war against their new occupiers.
  • Capture of Guam

    A small contingent of Japanes naval and armed forces easily captures Guam, the last important Spanish Pacific Colony.
  • Japanese Atrocities in the Philippines

    Richard Harding Davis, having shorting before left the Philippines, publishes his account of Japanese atrocities against Spanish POWs and Filipino citizens. Japan is subsequently condemmed across the world.
  • Treaty of Portsmouth

    The official end of the Spanish-Japanese War. Spain gives all of her Pacific Colonies to Japan.
