    Women wore broad hats and full "Gibson Girl" hairstyles.
    The fashionable silhouette in the early 1900s was that of a confident woman, with full low chest and curvy hips. Dresses and skirts brushed the floor, often with a train, even for day dresses. The fashion houses of Paris began to show a new silhouette, with a thicker waist, flatter bust, and narrower hips.By the end of the decade the most fashionable skirts cleared the floor and approached the ankle.

    The 1920s is the decade in which fashion entered the modern era. The most memorable fashion trend of the “Roaring '20s” was undoubtedly “the flapper” look. Women "bobbed," or cut, their hair short to fit under the popular hats. Low-waisted dresses with fullness at the hemline allowed women to literally kick up their heels in new dances like the Charleston.

    Back in the day, every woman had her curlers, her permanents, her setting lotions, her hair bonnets. Lashes and smoky eyes were very popular in the 1930s, still very popular till this day. Beauty back then was more about the make-up and the face not so much about what they wore.

    Dress necklines varied from high to moderately low. Showing cleavage in a dress was not very popular. Sweet-heart necklines were quite in style, but good luck finding a dress with that style now. V-necks and scoop (round) necks were also in, but you won't see much that's square. Like women's hair, clothing followed the idea of round and curving lines. Eyeshadow was gray or brown in the 40's, it went with any eye colour and just about any clothes. Hair was very rounded.

    In the 1950s the used lots of hairsray, was the best seller in the decade. There were lots of different make-up looks in the 1950s as well red lippy and black cat liner was still popular in that decade.

    The 1960s were reflected in makeup. The make-up focused on strong eyes, with a pale face, blush was rarely applied. All around the eye was lined in black.
  • 1970's

    The 1980s beauty ideal remained slim but required a more toned and fit look. Women could no longer just 'diet' into the correct size; there was a new pressure to add exercise to achieve the toned look.

    In the first half of the 1990s, when it became common for women to work, Shiseido released highly functional, long-lasting lipsticks, and gained popularity among working women.

    In the 2000s make-up and perfume was more popular then ever before. Shelves were going clear and one of the more popular perfumes till this day is Calvin Klein.
