  • Warsaw Pact

    Also known as the Treaty of Friendship was a defense treaty. It essentially strengthened the Soviet military.
  • Federal Aid Highway Act

    The Federal Aid Highway Act signed for the construction of over 41,000 miles of interstate highways.
  • NASA

    National Aeronautics and Space Administration was created to promote the research and exploration of space. NASA was created around the same time when the US and Russia were having a “space race”.
  • Launch of Sputnik 1

    Sputnik 1 was the first artificially made satellite set into earth’s orbit successfully. Sputnik was launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Tyuratam. This created the space age, or “space race” between the Soviets and United States.
  • The Berlin Wall is built

    The Berlin Wall was built to separate Western Germany, Berlin and Eastern German territory. It was built by the German Democratic Republic during the Cold War.
  • U.S. enters Vietnam War

    The U.S. entered into the Vietnam War in hopes to end the spread of communism.
  • Apollo 11

    Apollo 11 was the first space flight to land man kind on the moon. Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin Jr., and Michael Collins were the first humans to step foot on the moon.
  • Voting age lowered to 18

    The 26th Amendment states, “The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.”
