In 1955, Rosa Parks sat in a Montgomery, Alabama bus seat that was designated to the "whites". Which meant only the white peopl ecould sit in those seats and not the African Americans. She was then arrested for her act of defiance. That arrest had resulted in demonstrations and a boycott of Montgomery buses. And lasted until december 1956.

9 African Americans joined a school called Central High School, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Governor Faubus ordered the Arkansas National Guard to surround Central High School to keep the nine African American students from entering. He believed black and whites should be segregated. President Dwight D. Eisenhower ordered the 101st Airborne Division into Little Rock to insure the safety of the 9 students.
