    The public report showed that 67.4% of the blacks that lived in the south were living in poverty. Compared to 26.6% of whites. In the North and West, the numbers were much lower at 33.4%.

    New Havent CT it was originally designed as a “slum clearance” to protect the US. Congress appropriated $650 million dollars. To the city of New Haven to complete it.

    Segregation in schools is outlawed. The United States Supreme Court ruled Oliver Brown Board of Education in Topeka Kansas. In 1896 Plessy V. Ferguson decided to “separate but equal” decision.
  • Little Rock, AK

    Little Rock, AK after two years of violence constant federal troop protection and legal action, Ernest Green became the first black person to graduate. He went to school Central High School. One year earlier they got an award.

    Greensboro NC students from all over the country joined the sit-in. The people that started it was Ronald Martin, Robert Patterson, and Mark Martin. They refused to get up at the lunch counter until they got served.

    Nashville TN led by Diane Nash several students filled the lunch counters. They were arrested very quickly. As they were arrested another group sat down and took their spot.

    different states gathered to organize the next steps for the sit in movement. They decided not to join the NAACP or the SCLC. Instead they found SNCC.

    Atlanta GA the direction of the SNCC members Julian Bond and Lonnie King. With the assistance of Dr. King, originally sentenced four months at Reidsville State. With the support and involvement of John F. and Robert Kennedy.
  • Anniston Alabama

    Anniston Alabama The Freedom Riders entered Alabama they were met by a crowd of people. They threw stones and slashes of fire at the tires and that set the buses tires on fire. The second bus came in shortly after the volunteer where's met.
  • New Orleans

    New Orleans the freedom riders decided to end the original CORE- planned rides. At this point, the student movement SNCC and SCLC and others joined the efforts. Violence continued throughout the ride.
