  • The Gold Standard Act

    Signed by President William McKinley the Gold Standard Act of the United States was passed in 1900) and established gold as the only standard for redeeming paper money, and stopping the exchange of silver for gold.

    McKinley was shaking hands in public when he was shot by prominent anarchist Leon Czolgosz twice. McKinley died of gangrene on September 14th, 1901.

  • The Hepburn Act / Pure Food and Pure Drug Act is Enacted

    the U.S. government passed the Pure Food and Drug Act, the first in a series of legislation designed to regulate the quality of food and pharmaceutical products. The act banned manufacturers from selling mislabeled products, from adding potentially harmful chemicals or ingredients to food, and from misleading customers with inaccurate claims.

This was in response to the Supreme Court Case of Pollock V. Farmers Loan & Trust Co. which had an initial proposal of income tax however was ruled in favor of Pollock.
