    The failure of the Qing dynasty led some Chinese to believe the dynasty had lost the mandate of heaven which led to many rebellions in 1850. The most serious rebellion was led by Hong Xiuquan. It was called the Taiping Rebellion.

    Sepoys were indian soldiers who fought in the British army. What set off the revolution was the introduction of the new British rifle. The muslin and Hindu sepoys were offended by having to bite off the cartidges greased with pork and beef fat.

    Groups of peasants in Northern China began to band together into a secret society. Members of the secret society practiced boxing and calistenthic rituals because they believed it would make them impervious to bullets. By 1899, bands of Boxers were massarcring Christian missionaries and Chinese Christians.

    Military conflict in which Japan forced Russia to stop expansion to the east. The Russo-Japanese War developed out of the rivalry between Russia and Japan for dominance in Korea and Manchuria. Japan won the war.

    Franz Ferdinand was heir to the throne, and in 1914, him and his wife Sophie were assasinated. The man who killed them was named Gavrilo Princip. He was in a group of 6 assasins.

    Treaty of Versailled was one of the peace treaties at the end of WWI. The treaty was signed in Varsailles right outside of Paris, by Germany and their allies. It was signed at Versailles because of its size.
