  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    Beginning as a street brawl, this deadly riot was between the American colonists and the British soldiers and was later said to pave the way for the American Revolution. The colonists were angered at the rising taxes and were becoming rebellious, and as one soldier thought he heard "fire" and shot, the others proceeded with open fire, killing a total of five colonists and injuring more.

    Americans were furious at Britain for instilling "taxation without representation" and 342 crates of imported tea were dumped into the harbor. This was the first major act of defiance towards the tyranny of Great Britain, and it was just the beginning.

It was written by Thomas Jefferson and signed by the Continental Congress in order to acknowledge the sovereignty of the newly independent thirteen states.

    The election was held over a period of weeks from December to January and Washington was elected with 69 out of 69 votes cast in the Electoral College. He was the only president unanimously chosen and he was later inaugurated in April.
