    Abraham Lincoln proposed the Emancipation Proclamation to the cabinet on this date. The Emancipation Proclamation was made to free the slaves in the confedrate states. This didn't come into action until Janurary 1 1863

    On March 1 1867 the 14th amendment was turned down by 12 states and was not able to be ratifed. Radical Republicans reacted by enacting three laws between March 2 and July 19, 1867, which was known as the Reconstruction Acts.

    The 13th and 14th amendment were big stepping stones for African Americans and the amendment led up to the 15th amendment. The 15th amendment allowed African American males the right to vote.

    Linda Brown was not able to attend a white school in 1950 and so her family and many others took it took court and got turned down, but then the NAACP heard about it and this case was taken to the surprme court and on May 17 1954 the Bowns won the case and it made the segergation of black and white schools unconstitutional.
