  • CHIP Becomes Law

This will provide health coverage to an additional 4 million children and includes some improvements that child advocates have been fighting for.   • Senate Finance Committee Holds Health Care Hearing

    The Senate Finance Committee kicked off the formal legislative process by holding a hearing on health care. Other relevant committees have followed suit in order to begin formulating legislation to move through Congress. Chairman Max Baucus of the Senate Finance Committee calls for his committee to mark up "a comprehensive health care reform bill" in June and have it on the President's desk this year.   • Vision Budget Released

    President Obama released his vision budget which included $634 billion for health care reform.
  • Sebelius and DeParle Nominated

    President Obama nominates Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as Health and Human Services Secretary and named Nancy-Ann DeParle as director of the White House Office for Health Reform. Both women will play a significant role in overseeing health reform.
