Queen Thornflower gives birth to a boy and everyone in Two Moons celebrate. Mantricker decides to name his son Bearclaw, after one of his father's favorite animals. Bearclaw is heir to the throne.

Owl is at the castle with his pregnant wife Evenstar. During a council about the enemies, a guard tells Owl that the birth has begun. Longbranch is born to Owl and Evenstar, their first-born, brought into the world by the castle doctor Rain.

During the celebration of Thornflower's pregnancy, Joyleaf is born to the count and countess of Two Moons. Treestump is 4 years and demands that his little sister sleeps in his room so he can keep an eye on her. He doesn't trust the servants to take good care of his baby sister and thinks he can do a better job.

Thornflower gives birth to their second child, a girl. Their daughter is born in the middle of night under the shining moons. Mantricker names her Moonshade. Same night, her older brother Bearclaw is allowed to hold her. He promises to protect her.

A noble family is sailing across the sea to Two Moons when a pregnant lady's birth starts. Luckily, theres a priest on board to baptize the child immediately. Rillfisher is born, healthy, to her family's relief.

Brownberry is born to a noble family. 2-year old Longbranch and his family comes to visit and he adores the girl. The children are destined to be together and are engaged immediately.

Thornflower falls ill. Despite being treated by the best doctors in Two Moons, she doesn't get any better.

Thornflower dies from the sickness. Mantricker becomes a stern father and demands more from everyone. Bearclaw is now nine, Moonshade barely six.

Strongbow and his father goes out on a hunt. Evening comes and they're not back. Trueflight is worried and reports them as missing.

After three days of searching through the woods, Strongbow and his father are found in a blood soaked clearing. His father is dead. Strongbow is brought back to Trueflight, but won't tell anyone about what happened. He almost stops talking after his father's death.

The castle doctor Rain helps his wife giving birth to their son. When he hands the newborn boy to his mother, a spear that leant at the wall falls. The baby boy knocks the spear away. Rain thinks this was a special moment and names his son Pike.

12-year old Longbranch fell off his horse and Rain is at their manor to check on him. Evenstar is pregnant again and the birth starts. Woodhue is born to Owl and Evenstar, their second son, also brought into the world by Rain.

The birth of Rain's second child starts three moons too early. His wife gives birth to a girl. The child is small, but healthy. It starts to rain when the baby girl is born, and the first sound she makes is a singing laughter. Rain names his daughter Rainsong.

Princess Moonshade befriends Strongbow, the stable boy. She 'orders' him to take her for a walk in the forest and convinces King Mantricker to trust him.

Strongbow shows Moonshade a special place and also gives her a gift. A relative to Owl reveals a secret before he dies. He tells Owl about tiny footprints covered with blood besides the dead man's body. Suspicion immediately falls on Strongbow. Moonshade and Strongbow comes home from a walk in the forest. The king, guards and councilors are waiting for them. Mantricker tells the guards to take Strongbow to jail and sentences him to death.

Moonshade secretly visits Strongbow during the night and makes him tell the truth. He didn't do it. Strongbow's lead to the scaffot at dawn. Just as the executor is going to hang him, Moonshade runs for him. She refuses to let her father kill him and says that he's innocent. She also says that she loves him. Strongbow will be tested by 'The Iron Burden.'

Strongbow is tested with 'The Iron Burden' and proved innocent. Mantricker won't talk to Moonshade and vice versa, but the princess is sad because of it. Bearclaw finds a scroll in Moonshade's and gives it to Mantricker. Moonshade writes a farewell and has run away with Strongbow!

Mantricker and Bearclaw have a long 'father and son' talk about how they've been for the last year. The prince gives the king what he deserves. Later, Mantricker tells Bearclaw everything he knows about the death of Strongbow's father. The king also understands that his son has fallen in love with Joyleaf and lets him marry her.

Bearclaw and Joyleaf are married despite someone's protests. Mantricker is glad that his son is happy again. A month later, the king announces that Joyleaf is pregnant and will be giving birth to an heir.

Crescent is born to Strongbow and Moonshade, who lives in an unknown place. They have married in secret and is happy with life.

Woodhue sulks about being home. He wanders around inside the manor alone.
Owl and Longbranch comes home to everyone running around and screaming. Evenstar says that Woodhue's gone. Woodhue's out in the forest with a man, but is kidnapped by some others. He's questioned about the king and his father, but won't answer them.
Longbranch finds Woodhue and takes him home, where they discover that his right eye is gone. Mantricker gives him a new name; One-Eye. -
Prince Bearclaw has had a hard time focusing on his duties while his wife Joyleaf was pregnant. He's working on a copy when Joyleaf sends bid for the midwife. The prince whets the stone floor outside their sleeping chamber durin the birth and is then called inside. Joyleaf gives birth to a son and they name him Cutter. He will be king after Bearclaw and is titled 'prince'.

During a council about the abduction of One-Eye, Mantricker learns that his daughter is back. She is married to Strongbow and they have a daughter named Crescent. Mantricker melts when he holds her and allows them to stay. Moonshade also learns about her brother's marriage with Joyleaf and gets to meet her nephew, Cutter. He and Crescent also meet, but show no interest in each other.

Enemies of the king attacks and breakes into the manor of the Orn Kanta family. They kill as many as they can, servants, elders and men, then put the manor on fire. No one survives, not even women and children are spared

During a council, Mantricker receives a messenger and is told about the assasination of the Orn Kanta family. He breaks into tears at the loss of his best friend.
