The last battle of WWII. "Operation Iceberg" April 1st - June 22, 82-day battle. The battle as been referred as the "Typhoon of steel" because of the intensity of the battle.
The first atomic bomb dropped on Japan
The bomb was dropped to end the war and to evade having to invade Japan. Invading Japan would have had ended with more casualties than the atomic bomb.
