  • Nazi invasion of Poland

    "The Polish nation refused my efforts for a peaceful regulation of neighborly relations; instead it has appealead to weapons...no other means is left to me now than to meet force with force." -Hitler Hitler claimed that German borders had been attacked. The Polish army had been defeated within early weeks of the invasion. More than 2,000 tanks and over 1,000 planes, broke through Polish defenses along the border.
  • Holland is invaded by the Nazis

    One of the purposes of the invasion was to draw attention attention away from operations in the Ardennes and to lure British and French forces deeper into Belgium as well as to pre-empt a possible British invasion in North Holland. Churchhill wrote to Rooservelt saying ---"I am looking to you to keep that Japanese dog quiet in the Pacific."
  • Battle of Britain

    The Channel and England skies became a battle ground. The Britain meet a German force of soliders that in total was 1,392 bombers, plus 1, 290 fighters, with a 704 serviceable aircraft. The main combatants were the United Kingdom and Germany.
  • Camp X opens in Canada

    The Camp is located on the shores of Lake Ontario. The camp is lead by British agents who train Americans for the creation of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). Camp X was an unofficial name. The area is known today as Intrepid Park, after the code name for Sir William Stephenson of the British Security Coordination.
  • Baatan Death March Begins

    The march ebgan as a plead for life. The 70-mile march from Mariveles (on the tip of Bataan) to San Fernando was a trial that tested a man, broke him, or got him killed. The march was a total of 65 miles. It resulted of a total of 5, 00 AMerican deaths, in comparision to the beginning number of Americans which was 12, 000. They were walking to a new POW camp.
  • Battle of Midway

    This battle is regarded as the most important naval battle of the Pacific Campaign.The military historian John Keegan described the battle as --- "the most stunning and decisive blow in the history of naval warfare." The battle was a devastating defeat for Japanese.
  • US tropps take Makin and Tarawa in GIlbert Islands

    Tarawa teaches US commanders a bloody lesson. A total of 700 US marines were killed with a minimum of 2, 000 wounded. Newsreel pictures of corpses floating in with the tide made Americans think of battles differenly since they were used to looking at war through the haze of censorship.
  • Port Chicago Naval Base Explosion

    An industrial accident in a California Base kills 302 men, 202 of them were African American munitons loaders. Black sailors then refused to work because the working conditions would not improve.
  • Hitler commits suicide

    Adolf Hitler had married his wife the previous day from their suicide. They decided to retire and kill themselve together. Hitler ordered his favorite Alsatian dog to be poisoned with him. Goebbels and his wife poison their six children and have themselves shot by the S.S.
  • The first atomic bomb from the US hits Japan

    This was the first atomic bomb, and it was dropped on Hiroshima. The bomb was nicknamed "little boy" and it killed roughly 130,000 people. The bomb was dropped by Engola Gay, a B-29 nicknamed for the pilot's mother.
