  • End of WWII

    The war ended after the Japanese surrendered. The Americans were extremely excited with the outcome.
  • Brown v. Board of Education decision

    This decision decided that there cannot be segregation in schools or in any publiuc facilities.
  • Rosa Parks bus incident

    Rosa Parks was in the black section of the bus and was asked to move to the back by a white man, she refused and was thrown in jail.

    Montgomery Bus Boycott

    A boycott by African Americans in Montgomery Alabama that they decided not to ride the buses which destroyed the bus systems income in Montgomery.
  • Little Rock nine incident

    Nine African American students from Little Rock were not being allowed into a highschool that permitted blacks.
  • Sputnik launched

    The Soviet Union launched a satelitte called Sputnik into space wich created a rivalry space race between U.S.S.R. and U.S.
  • U-2 incident

    An American spy plane was shot down by the Soviet Union while the American's were spying on the Soviet Union. The Americans were very embarrassed by this and it ruined the current relationship witht he Soviet Union.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    The Americans invaded Cuba to take over Fidel Castro since he was a Communist and worked for the Soviet Union. Cuba was a large threat to the United States since it was so close to America.

    Cuban Missile Crisis

    A confrontation between United States and Soviet Union about the presence of missles in Cuba. They Soviets eventually removed their missles from Cuba.
  • Letter from Birmingham Jail

    MLKJ wrote a letter from jail to his fellow Clergy men, who were criticising his protests and rebellions. King wrote his letter saying that the time for protests was timely.
  • March on Washington

    Over 200,000 Americans came to Washington D.C. to hear MLKJ rally and deliver his famous "I have a dream" speech.
