    Herbert Hoover takes office
    Hoover was the 31st president of the United States. Hoover was a Republican who believed in economic modernization. Months after he took office came the Wall Street Crash of 1929, people were miserable! He was blamed for the Great Depression!
  • The Bonus Army

    The Bonus Army
    Originally named the Bonus Expeditionary Force, The Bonus Army had 43,000 marchers to Washington D.C. It was led by Walter Waters an army sergent and had 17,000 WWI veterans and their families in it. These veterans had lost their jobs after fighting in the war.
  • FDR elected

    Franklin Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the U.S. He lead people through an economic crisis and world war II! He was the first president to serve more than two terms.
  • RFC

    RFC
    The Reconstuction Finance Corporation was held by Herbert Hoover. It was made after WWI. The Emergency Relief Act allowed for the RFC to distribute money to state governments.
  • Hitler Takes Power

    Germany had just lost the war when Hitler came into power. He promised to undo the Treaty of Versailles. Being a brillant speaker, the people started to believe in him!

    Franklin Roosevelt introduced the New Deal during the Great Depression. It was made up of two phrases. It tried to help people throught the Depression by programs of agricultural and business regulation, inflation, price stabilization, and public works.

    It was a period where heavy dust storms caused agriculatural damage in many areas of the U.S and Canada. The dust bowl occured because there was a drought and wind in prairie lands. Took place in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, and Colorado!

    It gave rights to Native Americans and Alaskan Natives. This act gave N.A the right to manage their land. The tribes could even make their own consitiution.

    Charles Edward Coughlin was a Roman-Catholic priest in Royal Oak, MI. He was first political leader to use radio to attrack audiences. He was a supporter of Franklin Rosevelt but later judged him on his friendship with Jewish bankers.

    The Social Security Act that provided the welfare to people. It had a system for old-age citizens. Many states made provisions for blind people, crippled children, and public health!

    These were acts made by the U.S Congress in effort to keep them out of wars. It prohibited loans, limited buying arms, and kept citizens from traveling on ships.
  • GM Sit-Down Strike

    The United Automobile Workers went on strike. The UAW had only been formed in 1935 and had its first meeting in 1936. The union decided that it could not survive by piecemeal organizing campaigns at smaller plants but that it could organize the automobile industry only by going after its biggest and most powerful employer, General Motors in Flint, Michigan.

    Was a period of war between the Japanese and Chinese. It occured in the Chinese city of Nanjing, were thousands of chinese people were brutally killed. This occured shortly after World War II.

    The novel talks about what the conditions were like in Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl. It ruined the crops and brought farmers into poverty.
