  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta conference was conducted between the Allies of World War II to decide upon the splitting process of Europe. The conference, in other words, had to decide the future borders of Europe. However, US and the Soviet Union could not fully agree with the proceedings and results, which triggered the Cold War.
  • Potsdam Conference

    The Postdam conferance was designed to provide the eastern and western boundries after world war 2 as it was imcomplete however, stalin used this to take over all of eastern europe.
  • Truman Doctrine

  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    This was a programme of economic aid offered by the United States to any European country. The plan was rejected outright by Stalin and any Eastern Bloc country considering accepting aid was reprimanded severely. Consequently the aid was only given to Western European Countries.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    was one of the first major international crises of the Cold War. During the multinational occupation of post–World War II Germany, the Soviet Union blocked the Western Allies' railway, road, and canal access to the sectors of Berlin under allied control. Their aim was to force the western powers to allow the Soviet zone to start supplying Berlin with food, fuel, and aid, thereby giving the Soviets practical control over the entire city.

    At the end of WWII, a defeated Germany was divided amongst the victors, the United States, the Soviet Union, Great Britain, and France. The Soviet Union took control of the Eastern half of Germany, the Western half was divided amongst the US, Great Britain, and France. Like the rest of the country, the capital city of Berlin, sitting dead in the middle of the Soviet-controlled Eastern half, was also divided into four parts, one half being Soviet controlled, and the rest divided amongst the other

    CREATION OF FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY (WEST GERMANY)
    On May 23, 1949 the Federal Republic of Germany was officially formed. Because the Berlin Wall was destroyed, the Federal Republic of Germany was formed. (Soviet Union at fault) If the wall was never created than the Federal Republic of Germany would not have been formed.
  • The Russians test an atomic bomb.

    The Soviet Union successfully tests its first atomic bomb, which the U.S. calls Joe 1. In addition to the U.S., there are now two countries in the world with nuclear weapons.

    The Korean war ended. North Korea remained affiliated with Russia while South Korea was affiliated with the USA.

    The Warsaw Pact was formed with member states East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Albania, Bulgaria, and the Soviet Union.
  • North Vietnam invades South Vietnam.

    Communist North Vietnam invades South Vietnam, which is not communist. The United States will eventually join the war in Vietnam to try and stop the spread of communism.

    A force of Cuban exiles, trained by the CIA, aided by the US government attempted to invade Cuba and overthrow the Communist government of Fidel Castro. The attempt failed.

  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    A US spy plane reported sighting the construction of a Soviet nuclear missile base in Cuba. President Kennedy set up a naval blockade and demanded the removal of the missiles. War was averted when the Russians agreed on 28th October to remove the weapons. The United States agreed not to invade Cuba.
  • JFK Assassination

    JF Kennedy was assassinated while on a visit to Dallas. Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for the murder but there has always been speculation that he was not a lone killer and that there may have been communist or CIA complicity.
  • The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution leads to U.S. involvement in Vietnam.

    President Lyndon Johnson tells Congress that U.S. ships were fired on in Vietnam. Even though it may not have happened the way the president said it did, Congress agrees to allow the U.S. to get involved in the Vietnam War.
